This presentation will look at the role street furniture products and bespoke street furniture projects can play within a scheme. It will focus on how street furniture designs can move beyond simply fulfilling the needs of a scheme’s users, and begin to make a positive contribution to the public’s experience of the urban environment. Drawing upon a theoretical framework that looks at how the design of a product can provide ‘pleasure’ in addition to function and usability; the session will include practical examples and inspiration aimed at illustrating this effect.
